I just recently heard a few samples of this italian band Premiata Forneria Marconi more known as PFM. This band has actually been around as long as the more known dinasour bands. Anyone here who has got the albums and who can tell something about this band?

According to these samples they sound like a mix of early Genesis and even some Gentle Giant but with a lot more atmosphere than the latter.

This is one of those bands (like Starcastle) that I heard only clips of back in the day. I've always wanted to hear more, but never did. I know PFM's LPs were released on ELP's Manticore label (at least some of the records were).

I got on LP, Jet Lag, which was one of their English albums. It was released in 1977 when their music was less symphonic (no Mellotron on this one). I also got Chocolate Kings and Photos Of Ghost on one CD-R (which was a gift). On these albums you can hear the classic sound of this band. I think it's interesting and it has it's moments, but the band never did it for me.

I have an old LP titled "Vi Drar Vidare" transl: "Lets move on" released 1979 ..with the swedish band Kebnekajse* (heard of them?) where the lyrics are in the swedish language. They normaly was a folk rock band but with this album they went to play keyboard based symphonic rock for some reason. And..it was a really good one two. And to hear symphonic rock music with swedish lyrics is a very special thing especially when the lyrics are in a moody and poetic way ..and also to hear the english vocal dominated music in a non english language feels great as with the band PFM, IMO the Italian lyrics/vocals sounds really great. I will get all the early stuff with PFM when they still was a symphonic band. I believe they become more straight forward and rockier after that, isnt that so?!

*Note: Kebnekajse is the highest mountain of Sweden.

Never heard of that band before, but I found some information in the book The Progressive Rock Files from Jerry Lucky:

They create a heavily folk based progressive music that is very melodic and enjoyable.

Yeah, and their "Elefanten" from 1976 is actually a jazz fusion album including the great drummer Åke Eriksson on some of the tracks.
