Hi All,
I found this on Progressive Ears. LeeAnne wrote about the origins of the song "The Ride" From Oblivion Sun. I thought everyone might find it interesting.
Hello "The Sun Sing" and everyone else.
I've a few things to say and although I'm not sure if I'm in a good or bad part of my day, (I've chosen long ago not to categorize things of that nature.) Who's to say?
About the music references:
As the girl Stanley married, also; an intuitive musical person,
(That is; the reference to, what we knew as children and hopefully aspire to become again, after cracking then breaking open; open and tender that same way, after all of this"
I do still feel, am willing to love and I'm still honored to be asked to stand.
I love that I can share these conversations with Stanley.
He does too.
Thank you for talking....
The Ride: Stanley was with me the first time he spoke of the guitar he was hearing for a cool song, once upstairs in the music room, while we were fiddling with something else, more of a professional moment to make sure we both knew what we were going to do this weekend when we would play... and another time.
We were driving home in a car not functioning properly, after a gig, talking about the ride.. the drive. A long way from home there we were.
I suggested to him that with his sensibilities being of someone who still wants to grow on all he knows, and yess! an honorable distraction!!, from the traffic... Let us talk about the ride in the bigger scheme of things...
...All I can say, is that I Still enjoy doing this,
"Can't imagine doing anything else." I don't really like to even think about it, although I've made myself ask it before. It's what I 'm supposed to be and do."
"But if you simply couldn't and if you did know, what you would do, you lost your arms or something; what would you do to make a living?"
"A Pup-pet-teer, he said, or a his-tor-y tea-cher."
We'd both say, a similar thing, me to him, and him to me.
"I would love it if someone could come up with the perfect music to this. I'd love to hear the piano and guitar versions, if only we could be sure that two people would commit to it, at That level of musicianship.
These are the things we say, and perhaps, there's a chance,
it should be on paper.
The Ride: was written with
The liberating sensation of knowing you made a perfect decision to move forward with all the ideas you need to get back to; after all that was distracting my intuition, frustrating, let's move ahead nonsense noise; the essence of what first sparked me, with all the exuberance a new vowel full of glee sound, from a baby's wide open mouth. Smiling happiness right up and into me.
The energy you still manage to have, after all -of -it, and be full with conviction gusto excited about all you're gonna get to do.
He heard the big rounded gospel sound side of where my voice sometimes goes, doing
Hoo! Hoo! Hoo! HoooooWAAAH! throughout the choruses as well as a few harmonies in the verse, although it never made it into the mix but perhaps you can imagine it; what he was going for. It was neat. That's why he put it in the liner notes.
It is the same "song" within him that helps him walk open, strong upright and staying tender throughout all the mess we're all dealing with,
Now go ahead, with childlike tenderness and exuberence, - circulate this celebration of Stanley.

Might be good conversation or some music. He's playing his guitar throughout the house. I love hearing that.
Some chords of "purple rain" I hear for me
Love and thanks for still talking
